National Indigenous immunisation coordination
National coordination between the Aboriginal Community Controlled sector, other service providers and immunisation program managers is vital to ensure effective vaccination policy development and program delivery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The role of National Indigenous Immunisation Coordinator was created to facilitate communication and coordination between these groups. This includes:
- consulting with the Indigenous health sector to identify issues relating to immunisation in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- providing advice to the National Immunisation Committee on these issues
- maintaining the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Immunisation Network (NATSIIN) through a consultative process
- reporting issues identified by the NATSIIN to meetings of the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) Board and the National Immunisation Committee
- attending relevant national and state/territory meetings relevant to immunisation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- disseminating outcomes of NIC and other meetings to NATSIIN and the Indigenous immunisation workforce
- publishing articles on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander immunisation topics
- preparing regular Message stick newsletters for dissemination to the Indigenous immunisation workforce
- collating relevant national and local health promotional resources
